The Cedar Rapids Kennel Assocation (CRKA) is a not for profit member club of The American Kennel Club (AKC) that has been in the Cedar Rapids area for over 75 years. CRKA's mission as set out in its constitution is:
  • To further the advancement of all breeds of purebred dogs
  • To conduct events for which the club is eligible to hold under the rules and regulations of the American Kennel Club
Some of the events that CRKA is currently involved in are a yearly AKC sanctioned dog show, which includes Conformation, Obedience and Rally trials. On top of the annual dog show CRKA also conducts fun matches, sponsors educational meetings, runs an annual CERF eye clinic as well as supporting different charitable functions and organizations in order to support the local canine community.

Other events that CRKA members are also involved in are Agility, Lure Coursing, Tracking, Freestyle and Therapy work. Therapy dogs are certified by Therapy Dog International and go to nursing homes, hospitals, care centers, etc. and interact with the patients as a community service, at least once a week. Freestyle is a team of a person and their dog doing a dance routine to music. They dance in nursing homes, care centers, children's groups, etc as a community service, several times a month.

If you are interested in learning more about CRKA, The AKC or your pet and their behavior please join us for one of our monthly meetings. Visitors are always welcome to attend. For more information on our meetings please click the meetings tab to the left.
In 2008 the Cedar Rapids area was stricken by a terrible flood that impacted many families and their pets. Many CRKA members acted to help these families and their pets by working at the shelters, giving donations, and working to communicate with the dog communities around the country. We appreciate all that was done in this great time of need and appreciate all the people that helped the families and pets in need.
